My “Science” Experiment
On a sad, sad, day, when I was sick, and really tired, I was watching TV. I watched many movies, and shows that day, such as CSI, something on ABC family, Poseidon, and many more. But the important thing that I watched was a program about the moon. It was very interesting. I learned many things that day. For example, the moon started out really close to the earth. Back then, there were enormous waves, due to that the moon was closer. Also, I learned, that some scientists think that the stage of the moon might affect many things, such as human behavior. Also some of them believe that the stage of the moon might affect earthquakes.
That idea got me thinking….
So, I made up an experiment to “test’” this theory. I made a calendar where I showed when there is a full, or a new moon. I found this great website (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.php) where you can find the earthquakes that happened in the last 7 days. Every day, from that day I wrote down all the magnitudes of the earthquakes (magnitudes 4 and bigger), and calculated the average.
Now I have been doing that for about a month. Here is my data:

Also here is the graph I made for my observations:
Note: the earthquakes are supposed to have a greater magnitude during New Moon since the combined gravity of the sun and the moon is really strong.
